There is a certain nostalgia amongst the student sea-front residents who arrived before 2005. You see, The Glen used to be a hotel/pub with exceptionally bad music, overexpensive drinks and unbreathable air. It was, in short, a dive. But... IT WAS OUR DIVE!

On weeknights it was open until one in the morning, and so was often just perfect for that post-essay drink (or pre-essay drink depending on how punctual you are). Monday night pound parties were a great social occasion! OK, the only drinks you could get for a quid were alcopops or Grolsh, but that didn't matter, it was the people you went for. It was a place for the people of Pumlumon, Alex Hall, Caerleon, and the others to congregate and catch up. Yes, the music was cheese, but cheese is good sometimes. Afterall, if you can't enjoy ending the night dancing madly to Don't Stop Me Now on the stage... with the pole, what can you enjoy?!

Unfortunately, that's all over. The Glen now calls itself by its full name, the Glengower Hotel. It stops serving drinks at 11 and has gotten rid of the dance floor. It's clean, tidy and altogether different.

There's not much point in going there any more. TheBay is the seafront venue of choice these days.

Shame really.

Fully known as 'The Glengower Hotel'

I prefer it now, its shigs' new local
