May be boring and unreadable by those other than Bluec.
- Aye, I thought this page would be about 'dissing' Bluec, what a disappointment -- Aimaz 15:25, 19 December 2005 (GMT)
CIFS/Samba Search/Automatic-mounting/Caching
A system to implement several extra features to cifs/samba browsing in linux. Allowing an automatic scan of the local network for shares/computies, then making a searchable and caching directory of them. In linux (possibly windows with that drive letter nonsense) mapping all machines and shares in a local directory structure.

Aberystwyth/Ceredigion Cycle Map Wiki
Tutor: afc
Wiki based maps are becoming more common though tend to have very little data in them at present. Google Maps shows how Ajax technology can add usability to mapping services. Aberystwyth/Ceredigion needs a map for bicyclists, showing which roads and paths are cycle-friendly,and which are not (steps, traffic, etc), where the cycle parks are, and potentially calculating routes from A to B. Basing it on a Wiki allows members of the public to add information. How can a web-based map be printed to take with you? How can Ajax technology and Wikis be combined? Could Google Maps API be used also? What GIS technologies are available for implementation of such a project? Various angles to work on.
- GPS routes added automatically to maps?
- investigate GPS formats from GPS handsets, could simply be an array of lat/longitude points which would be simple to overlay onto google maps.
- google maps api has that balloon info thing for specific locations on the map -- could extract information from a wiki, or link to a wiki seperately
- cycle paths not on overhead photos usually, google maps currently has no cycle path/public footpath information that i can see -- such information should be publically available
- internets
- http://www.sustrans.co.uk/default.asp?sID=1095769302390 - free cycle maps for the UK
- http://www.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/#The_Hello_World_of_Google_Maps -- google maps api documentation
- support for overlays of routes, clicking the map to add an information point (could link to wiki)
- http://www.colc.co.uk/about/maps.html - free cycle maps for cambridge from the local county council
- http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki a wiki implementation with useful features
- http://wikipedia.sourceforge.net/doc/ wiki documentation
- http://www.ceredigion.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=351 -- doesnt seem to work (firefox/lunix), but apparently has maps like m0ng found, see Stmh/Map...
- Pros
- People to get information, critique from: ferret? me dad?
- Ajax and google maps api == rad
- Cons
- wtf is cycling :/
- Google maps does not have enough detail for cyclists, who are likely to use more than just roads but also bridleways etc. -- Aimaz 15:31, 19 December 2005 (GMT)
automated layout scripting
-- see newspaper layouts, magazine layouts, etc. usually arty ones (edge, guardian's 'guide' section)
- structured text in columns, boxes with images laid out automatically.
- page describes chunks of text (one chunk split automatically?) and images (probably of fixed size/ratios) which are arranged in boxes according to a basic CSS description.
- adds interest to standard and boring sidebar/titlebar type page layouts
- possibly slightly randomised -- refresh and get a new layout
- possibly implement ajax to change page within current layout quickly (if more text than images, keep images, save load times, etc )
- fit to browser window?
the hilarious gimp mock-up could be created by an xml (?) file simply describing image elements, quote elements, content elements (element?) and inline image elements. the layout would be generated automatically similar to the image. the inline image would be fit in randomly or perhaps with a relational element which ties it to a certain part of the content. images would fit in the best way possible for their size and/or aspect ratio.
- Pros
- um...
- Cons
- basic, not much software engineering, limited application (news sites, blogs?, )
==Tiny Terrain Traversing Guys== by Jonneh A VOXELS landscape is generated and populated with little 3d mans who's sole objective in life is to traverse to all the peaks and put a flag in the top if they cannot climb to the highest peak they will attempt to displace VOXELS in order to get up there. The flag has amusing 3 letter words on like HAM, POO, LOL and HUH. More than one type of MANS can be spawned, and will do battle to have their own flags on top fo the hills. Sometimes the mans will like pray to allah or something.
- Pros
- Aliteration in the title
- Tiny mans who like to climb hills
- VOXELS ARE FUTURE TECHNOLOGY TODAY
- It would make me laugh
- Cons
- It's a dumb idea
- You will fail university
- mbr would probably beat you up for being such a faggot
