Ingredients

Method

  1. melt the butter in a large saucepan
  2. chop the onions, fry them in the butter
  3. cut the meat into small lumps then fry with the onions
  4. add crushed garlic, brown sugar and flour
  5. cook for about 3 mins stiring constantly then add the ale and season, bring to the boil and cook slowly for a couple of hours
  6. about 20 mins before serving, pour the stew into an oven dish, coat one side of the bread with mustard and put mustard side down on top of the stew, drizzle olive oil on the top of the bread, put in a hot oven or under the grill until the bread is brown and crisp.

Result

Serves 4, good with mashed potato.
