Notes

Apparantly you can get special pre-chopped cooking dates with the stones removed, I just used one of those little trays that they sell in lidl.

  1. Remove all of the stones from the dates and chop them into small chunks.
  2. Gently heat the butter in a saucepan, when it melts chuck in the chopped dates.
  3. Meanwhile smash your digestive biscuits into crumbs.
  4. When the dates have gone all squidgy add the biscuit crumbs.
  5. Stir thoroughly until all the butter is soaked and the mixture is all a sticky ball
  6. Empty the mixture into a tray, the shallower the better, you want it around 1/2" thick so pick the right tray.
  7. Press the mixture down hard into the tray otherwise it'll break up when you try to remove it. Use the back of a tablespoon to glide over the squidged date squares to even it out.
  8. Once you've smoothed it flat and squidged it down hard put it in the fridge to cool until it's firm when prezzed.
  9. Melt the chocolate in a pyrex bowl floating in a pan of hot water.
  10. Pour the melted chocolate onto the cold date mixture and spread it good.
  11. Put if back in the fridge for a while
  12. When the chocolate is set chop it up into 1 1/2" squares and eat.

Result

Deliciously fatty snack. If you find that they don't last long try doubling or tripling the quantity of each ingredient, just remember to use a bigger tray too.
