Spectre seems to be suggesting cold places... is he having withdrawal symptoms from British weather?
- New year should be about snow!
[edit] Options
[edit] TBA
- Pros: Beefalo and Swb
- Cons: Indeterminate location
[edit] Brittany
- Lager in France is £3.74 GBP
- Pros: Free accommodation, fairly easy to get to
- Cons: It's France,
nowhere to stay (house doesnt have space for everyone?), nothing to do, nothing to look at, lots of driving involved- Plymouth->Roscoff ferry service stops December 22nd. Roscoff->Plymouth ferry service seems to restart Feb 12th.
- Cork->Roscoff ferry is not running until March 2010.
- Ferry dover<->dunkirk around 45gbp but requires over 7 hours of driving to brest (not sure where house is) not to mention the time driving to Dover.
- Look up Portsmouth-->Cherbough, or Portsmouth-->St. Malo -- I did look up St. Malo, I think it was a non-starter, I'll check again tonight.
[edit] Iceland
- Lager in Iceland is £3.60
- Pros: Snow
- Cons: snow, darkness, snow, it is grim up north
- Most expensive beer in Europe -- even since the "crisis" (Lager in Iceland is £3.6 GBP[1])
- Flights start at 310gbp per person (return)
[edit] Finland
- Lager in Finland is £3.4 GBP
- Pros: Snow, *sing* it's the country where i want to be pony trekking or camping... or just watching TV.
- Cons: Also dark
- Info:
- Flights to stansted <-> tampere (where?) 134gbp (return) according to skyscanner, more reasonable than Iceland.
[edit] Estonia
- Lager in Estonia is £1.5 GBP
- Pros: Snow
- Cons:
- Indirect flights from 210gbp per person to Tallin (where?)
[edit] Armenia
- Lager in Armenia is €1.19 EUR
- Pros: Awesome
- Cons: Gypsies
- No flights to Armenia since plane had it's wheels nicked whilst landing. Ok, flights do exist, but nowhere seems to be able to tell me how much they cost.
- 640 Euros says skyscanner
[edit] Scotland
- Pros: Snow, Reasonably intelligible English spoken, Highland Cows, Kilts, Battered Pizza, journey time is under 7 hours by car or train even from remote areas of Britain (like Cambridge). (though a train journey would cost 134gbp from cambridge even booking now (nov 25th), same as a flight to Finland), auld lang syne, how you say? hogmanay, best time of year to visit Scotland as it's snowy and pretty and there are no fucking midges.
- Cons: Not abroad, irn bru, getting fat on deep fried mars bars
- Info: Return flights London <-> Glasgow can be had for around 40 quid and <-> Edinburgh for around 60 quid. Just over an hour on the plane. Looks like we could get an apartment to sleep 6 for around a thousand for 5 nights, but we'd need to book soon.
[edit] Stevenage
- Pros: Not too far away, free canapes and cocktails, free beer, free accommodation, small fireworks display, sparklers, affectionate cat, free parking etc.
- Cons: Limited space - book early to avoid disappointment,
gypsieschavs, weather.
