Profound is that which is unknown or beyond the ken of general popular (or irc) opinion. It is only profound to those who do not understand it. For those 'in the know', it is commonsensical, 'all surface' and no depth. But the surface itself IS the depth. Anything considered 'profound' tends to be banned from irc or simply mocked and ridiculed. This aversion to change is common amongst groups which consider themselves 'communities' as the threat of the not known is a threat to the group. This aversion to profundity therefore is also an aversion to a change in the status quo yet without change the community will become anachronistic, cliched and simply dull. The rational should be relegated to the status of little more than an option amongst many ways of seeing. Some dictionary definitions: Profound: "deep, instense, unqualified", "having or showing great knowledge or insight", "at or extending to a great depth" Moriarty
