When Peter Tyers saw my statistics he kindly refered me to this quote.
- "A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic."
In some sense Stalin is correct, but I have to disagree and say that a million deaths is not only a statistic but also a million tragedies.
| War Name | Start Date | End Date | Length (years) | Total US Killed | Total Civilians Killed | US Death Rate (deaths/year) | Civilian Death Rate (deaths/year) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vietnam War | 1964 | 1975 | 11 | 58,226 | 4,000,000 | 5,293.27 | 363,363.36 |
| Gulf War 2 | Mar-2003 | Present | 1.58 | 1,363 | 14,453 | 860.84 | 9,128.21 |
Notes:
- US involvement in Vietnam began in 1950 escalating until 1964. For more information see Wikipedia's page on the Vietnam war
- Statistics for ongoing conflicts may be out of date.
- Civilians killed statistics are estimates and in the case of the Iraq War estimates the lower bound has been used.
